1. Hidimba Devi Temple

The ancient cave temple known as Dhungari temple, or Hadimba Temple, is dedicated to Hidimbi Devi, the wife of Bhima, a well-known character in the Indian epic Mahābhārata. Situated at the base of the Himalayas, the temple is surrounded by a cedar forest called Dhungiri Van Vihar. The temple has an interesting backstory as it was built around a cave where Devi Hidimba used to meditate. Hidimbi, who belonged to a Rakshasa family, desired to marry someone who could defeat her brother Hidimb. During the Pandavas’ exile, Bhima, one of the five Pandavas, defeated Hidimb in Manali. Following this, Hidimba married Bhima and they had a son named Ghatotkacha. This temple, nestled in the snow-covered mountains, has a distinctive appearance with wooden doors and is a popular attraction for tourists due to its historical significance and the beauty of its surroundings.

2. Naggar Village & Castle

The beautiful village of Naggar is located a short distance from Manali, on the left side of the Beas River. It is an ancient town in the Kullu district and was once the capital of the Kullu kingdom. This place has its own unique charm and is not usually crowded with tourists, making it even more appealing. Naggar Castle, which is now a heritage hotel, is the main attraction in Naggar. It was built over 500 years ago by Raja Bhosal and managed to survive the 1905 earthquake. While many surrounding houses were destroyed, the castle’s use of earthquake-resistant techniques allowed it to withstand the disaster. In 1978, the castle was transformed into a rest house and later became a heritage hotel run by HPTDC. The castle is situated in a picturesque setting and contains a sacred stone slab called Jagti Patt. As the only remaining castle in the Kullu district, locals believe that this stone protects against evil eye. The museum inside the castle is also popular among tourists.

3. Solang Valley

Solang valley, located 14 km northwest of Manali, is a highly popular destination.
