I gathered all the necessary information for the bike marathon before participating. While riding alone adds an extra element of excitement to the race, it is important to be well-prepared.clear on nuts and bolts so as to get familiarized with those unknown roads. In addition, I buffed my bike with all essentials and got ready to zip and zap.
I started my motorbike expedition to Ladakh on the first day when I arrived in the picturesque valley of Manali in Himachal Pradesh. Although I only had a brief glimpse of the upcoming journey while navigating the difficult roads of Kullu valley, the stunning scenery constantly inspired me. Each twist and turn tested my riding abilities, but the breathtaking sights of the flowing Beas River, rugged mountain slopes, verdant hills with pine and deodar forests, and expansive apple orchards motivated me to keep going.
The first stage of the motorcycle trip to Leh Ladakh began when I started riding towards Jispa to reach Sarchu. One of the remarkable aspects of this place was its beautiful sunrise, which brought hope to everyone. To get to this picturesque location, I rode through Rohtang Pass, which is located at a height of 3,978 m. Along the way, it felt like the landscape was changing as the trees disappeared and the green areas were replaced by brown terrain, signaling the arrival of the Lahaul and Spiti district.
Now, it was time to decrease the speed in order to cross a relatively challenging road through Baralacha La. As you continue on, the dangerous aspect of traveling to this destination is the possibility of falling asleep, which could be life-threatening. Therefore, caution is necessary.It is advisable to be cautious and take breaks periodically.to prevent ending up in a disadvantageous scenario.
The following day, I conducted important inspections on my bicycle as I was preparing to enter the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. Along the way, the vastness and abundance of high altitude passes like Nakee La, Lachung La, and Tanglang La left me momentarily speechless and motionless. Before I could fully appreciate the breathtaking landscapes they presented, the intricate artwork found in the rare paintings of Thiksey Monastery left me unable to find the right words to describe the beauty that this place and nature possess. While further exploring Leh, the capital of the Himalayan Kingdom of Ladakh, I was captivated by the stunning views offered by Stok Kangri and the mountain ranges of Ladakh.
The natural surroundings of the place are the perfect exemplar of the poetry of earth which is eternal.
Additionally, I traversed the world’s highest road pass known as Khardung La Pass. Located at an elevation of 5,636 m, the rugged path of this pass possesses its own unique allure. Riding on the challenging muddy terrain not only assessed my biking abilities but also provided the exhilaration I had anticipated. Venturing through the cold mountainous desert featuring rocky inclines and stunning sand dunes evoked a heightened sense of apprehension and unease.
The following day, I prepared myself for the most exciting route, which leads to Pangong Tso Lake. This route includes rough terrain and a river, and offers many breathtaking views. Although I was very tired, I didn’t want to stop the journey because there were still many surprises waiting for me on the way back home. Before heading back to the city, I took a moment to reflect on the rides I used to take with my eyes closed.
